In response to the article, Tyra released the following statement:
"I am just overwhelmed with emotion right now! I feel so blessed and I'm so grateful for being honored with this award! It makes me feel good to know that my hard work and dedication is being recognized. I am so thankful to the people that voted for me. I am especially thankful for my family and all of my coaches and teammates who have all helped make this moment possible! I am so proud to represent Illinois with the title of Ms. Basketball for the game I respect and love to play!"

February 28, 2013: Tyra is named First Team IBCA (Illinois Basketball Coaches Association) First Team All- State for the third straight year.
February 20, 2013: For the third time in 3 years, Tyra is listed as AP 2A All-State Basketball. She was the only player too be a unanimous choice.
February 20, 2013: For the third time in 3 years, Tyra is All Big 8 Conference.
February 14, 2013: Tyra completes the season with the Lady Aces with a loss in the Sectional Finals to the Teutopolis Lady Wooden Shoes. Tyra sets the new mark for most points in a season nationally by a girl's basketball player, scoring 1,285 points during the 2012-2013 season (according to MaxPreps.com). The Lady Aces finished the season at 32-1 for the best overall annual record for any MCHS basketball team in the history of Mt. Carmel.
February 7, 2013: Tyra sets a new record for most points in a season for an Illinois girl during the Regional Championship win over Harrisburg. In a great team effort, the 2012-2013 Lady Aces are now 31-0 and won the Regional for the third straight year. Tyra's season points are now 1,217 and she's well on her way to breaking the career mark held currently by Olney, Illinois and Ohio State alum Brittany Johnson. Tyra has 3,363 points and is only a junior. Brittany's record for the State of Illinois is 4,031.
February 6, 2013: Tyra becomes the all time State of Illinois career leading free throw shooter (as a junior). The point came in the Lady Aces first game of the Regional at McLeansboro against the Lady Foxes of Hamilton County. Buss plays 2 1/4 qtrs and scores 46.
February 2, 2013: HISTORY! The 2012-13 Lady Aces become the first basketball team in MCHS history to go undefeated during the regular season with a win over Eldorado at Eldorado. 29-0. 29-0!!!
January 31, 2013: Lady Aces are now 28-0 and win their final Big 8 conference game against Boonville to become Conference Champions.
January 19, 2013: Tyra sets a new school record with 54 single game points in the Championship win over Goreville in the Eldorado Tournament. She's also named MVP for the third year in a row. Aces win 73-64 and are now 23-0 for the season.
January 18, 2013: Tyra becomes the first player in Illinois High School History to score 3,000 career points in their junior season. The free throw came at the Eldorado tournament. The game was stopped and she was presented the game ball. Indiana coach Curt Miller was at the game and had a flat tire getting to Eldorado. He tweets, "Flat Tire while out recruiting....Even the tire guy helping me knows this recruit...hoping to see some history tonite". Congratulations Coach Miller on witnessing it first hand!
December 22, 2012: For the second time in her prep career, Tyra Buss has moved to the top of the national high school scoring list. Buss, a Lady Aces junior, is now averaging 37.1 points per game, which is tops in the country, according to maxpreps.com. She scored 168 points in four games at the Toyota Teamwork Classic (which averages out to 42 points per game) to improve her game average up by 1.7 points and into the lead.
November 21, 2012: Tyra verbally commits to Indiana University to play Division 1 basketball.
March 19 & 20, 2012: Tyra participates in the IHSA Class 2A State Track Meet at EIU. Participating in the 300m low hurdles, Tyra set a school record of 45.72 to advance out of the preliminaries. She was seeded 6th and finished 6th during the finals. This was a very successful track season for Tyra - she set 7 school records during this season. Those records are: 200m, 400m, 800m and part of the relay teams for the other four. Great year Tyra!
March 16, 2012: At an all-school assembly, representatives of the National High School Coaches Association and GTM Sportswear announce that Tyra has been named
National Athlete of the Month
for March of 2012. 6,000 high school coaches are involved in the selection, and 8 athletes are named throughout the year as athlete of the month. Those 8 athletes will then vy for the Athlete of the Year which will be announced in May.
Tyra's named will be enshrined in the National High School Hall of Fame to be opened in 2013 in Easton, Pennsylvania. Congrats!
February 24, 2012: Tyra named 1st Team All-State by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association.
February 23, 2012: Tyra advances to the final four of the Country Financial 3 point shootout at the IHSA State Basketball Championship. She hit 10 out of 15 and then 4 out of 10 to advance in a shoot-off. Finals are at 8pm Friday at RedBird arena. For live coverage go to www.ihsa.org. Go Tyra!
February 21, 2012: Tyra is named as a unanimous pick for the Associated Press Class 2A All-State Team.

February 14, 2012: Lady Aces end their season at the Fairfield Sectional with a loss against the Teutopolic Wooden Shoes. Tyra ends up with 1,121 points for her sophomore year and her career total is now 2,146. Track Season begins!
February 9, 2012: Lady Aces win the Eldorado Regional
February 8, 2012: Tyra surpasses the career scoring total of Mt. Carmel and University of Evansville stand-out Craig Snow. Craig, now an assistant coach at the University of New Mexico, had a total of 2,091. With the 33 point performance at Eldorado, Tyra is at 2,094 points and only 243 points behind all time leader at MCHS and University of Indiana All-American Archie Dees (2,337)
February 2, 2012: Tyra becomes the fastest Illinois High School athlete ever to reach the 2,000 career point mark with a 31 point performance against Boonville, IN. Watch it here:
January 22, 2012: Mt. Carmel captures the Eldorado Lady Eagle Winter Classic by going 5-0. Tyra is named the MVP for the second straight year after totaling 183 points throughout the five games.
January 2, 2012: Tyra scores 47 points in the Lady Aces win over Evansville North High School in their brand new gym on the north side of Evansville. Bring on 2012!
December 22, 2011: Mt. Carmel takes 2nd place in the Toyota Teamwork Classic at Princeton, Indiana. Tyra is named to the All-Tournament Team.
December 20, 2011: Tyra sets a new school record with 53 points in a game in the Toyota Team Work Classic Christmas Tournament.
December 5, 2011: In the 7th game of her Sophomore year, Tyra is now the all-time career point leader at Mt. Carmel High School in Girl's basketball. She scored 38 points in a conference win against Princeton and ended up with 1277 points. The previous record was by Trish Ackerman, also a standout Lady Ace. Congrats!
December 2, 2011: Tyra sets the one game scoring record for girls at the Marshall County Hoop Fest in Marshall County, Kentucky with 39 points.
November 26, 2011: The Lady Aces win the Robinson Invitational for the 2nd straight year and Tyra is named to the 1st Team All Tournament team also for the 2nd straight year.
